On top of that, Xutkitree can run a Shell Bell for fairly steady HP recovery; combined with its Special Attack, access to Beast Boost, and nearly unresisted coverage, Xurkitree looks like the best Ultra Beast to take into Battle Royal. null Overview Male Meowstic-M is a brilliant dual screen setter thanks to a myriad of good traits. It boasts a naturally high Speed tier and access to Prankster, which works well with its large support movepool including Reflect, Light Screen, Yawn and Thunder Wave. It's also decently bulky for a defensive support Psychic type, letting it stomach neutral hits well with the right prediction after setting up the correct screen first. On top of that, Meowstic-M sets itself apart from other screen setters and Pranksters thanks to the rare Assist, which not only lets it call on its allies' support moves such as Smeargle's Geomancy or Bellossom's Quiver Dance, but also lets it use its allies' attacks as priority attacks for the jump on non-Dark types. This gives it an amusing niche as a potential revenge killer because it can both boost and attack before the AI can react. null Overview Kantonian Ninetales Ninetales is an excellent offensive sun setter thanks to its good coverage, access to Nasty Plot, and solid 100 Speed stat letting it outpace or tie with many traditional Fire checks such as neutral nature Starmie, Tentacruel, or Feraligatr. With its great Speed and access to Flame Charge, it can also act as a passable revenge killer, outspeeding most offensive Water types at +1 and hitting the tier's many Rock and Ground types hard courtesy of sun-boosted Solar Beam and Hidden Power Ice. However, its incredibly frail physically and tends to fall to non-STAB coverage often due to its poor Defense and only decent Special Defense. Its most consistent moveset revolves around Dry Skin, letting it heal off Life Orb recoil in rain and giving it access to a nearly full power Surf to swamp the entire field while also letting it abuse STAB Thunder thanks to perfect accuracy. Solar Power, on the other hand, utilizes a Choice Specs to turn Heliolisk into a terrifying wallbreaker capable of slamming even special walls like Snorlax and Blissey with a sun-boosted Focus Blast or STAB Thunderbolt, while also giving it a powerful Volt Switch to not only inflict heavy chip damage but also pivot out of unfavorable matchups. null Overview Poliwrath's balanced stats across the board and unique typing give it a special niche among Battle Royal's numerous Fighting and Water types, as it has a modest offensive and defensive movepool backed by three useful abilities. Offensively, it has excellent coverage and a useful setup move in Bulk Up, letting it act as both a setup sweeper and physical wall thanks to good Defense, while defensively it has access to a myriad of status and support moves such as Scald, Toxic, and Circle Throw to help spread status and wear down opposing teams. Its abilities also each have their own niche: Damp prevents Explosion and Selfdestruct from Azelf, Lickilicky and Snorlax, giving Poliwrath time to set up or attack. Water Absorb allows Poliwrath to sponge attacks from foes like Gastrodon, Empoleon, and Primarina while giving it a solid 25% HP recovery. null Overview Magcargo is the de facto worst Fire type in the entire Pokemon series, and this fact is alarmingly clear when thrown into battle. Despite passable Defense, reliable recovery, and access to a useful defensive and utility movepool, Magcargo is easily snuffed out thanks to poor HP and Special Defense as well as a crippling double weakness to Water and Ground, two of the most common coverage moves in Battle Royal. As if that wasn't bad enough, it lacks the coveted Solid Rock used by Carracosta and Camerupt, forcing it to run Iron Defense, Amnesia, or dual screens in the vain hope of stomaching moves that it will likely fall to anyway. Even when hacked to have full stats and Solid Rock, Magcargo still suffers from a terrible Speed stat, requiring it have access to Shell Smash, Quiver Dance or Geomancy just to ensure it can move fast enough to buff up and not die. null Overview Mega Lopunny is one of, if not the best Normal type Mega Evolution for Battle Royal. Fantastic power and Speed, usable bulk, a massive offensive and supportive movepool and most importantly, its access to the rare Scrappy makes it a terrifying opponent to fight and a phenomenal partner for offensive and defensive teams alike. Access to high base power STAB in High Jump Kick and Return coupled with great coverage moves like Bounce, Iron Tail, Dig and the elemental punches let it roll with whatever coverage the team needs. Its also an amazing Baton Passer courtesy of its unique access to Cosmic Power and Power-Up Punch, letting it pass great buffs to its physically inclined partners. High Speed also lets it act in a defensive roll if necessary, as it can force switches thanks to Scrappy Circle Throw, heal ally status with Heal Bell, or sacrifice itself with Healing Wish to bring an ally to full health and status. null Overview Other Steel types like Metagross, Scizor, Heatran or Aggron all boast more notable traits than Forretress, including Mega Evolution, unique typings, potent offensive stats or fantastic defensive ability. Forretress, however, should not be overlooked - it has rare access to the combination of Gyro Ball, Volt Switch, and Curse, giving it a powerful Steel type STAB without needing to invest in Attack at all and a slow pivot letting it get teammates in for free. The wide availability of Thunder Wave, Bulldoze, and Icy Wind ensures Forretress will often be able to power up Gyro Ball without needing to do much. Usable HP and excellent Defense alongside its Steel/Bug typing ensures it can stomach many neutral physical hits, and unlike Mega Steel types, it can run Leftovers or a pinch Berry for health recovery if needed. null Overview Nihilego's excellent HP, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed along with a unique Rock/Poison typing seem appealing at first glance, but Nihilego lacks the defensive and offensive synergy of its fellow Ultra Beasts. A crippling double weakness to Earthquake and Earth Power - two of the most common Ground type moves in the Battle Royal Dome - combined with a pitiful 47 Defense means Nihilego needs massive team support to function properly. Without team coordination, Nihilego's only use is as a Choice Scarf user to try and KO opponents with its decent special movepool, but without a means of bolstering its bulk or recovering health, its quickly snuffed out by Ground type users such as Nidoking, Mega Camerupt, Palossand and Garchomp. I've mostly moved over to Pixiv for my spicier content, so don't expect much here. For now, though, I will continue to make notes on Battle Royal. Here's a dragon! Dragalge Dragalge's low Speed, average physical bulk, and only decent Special Attack means it's quickly overshadowed by many stronger, faster, or bulkier dragons like Flygon, Haxorus, Druddigon, Salamence or Drampa. However, Dragalge carries several notable boons that help give it a solid place on a team. It boasts a great Special Defense stat for a non-legendary Dragon type, which lets it tank quite a few neutral special hits as needed. It also has a unique Poison/Dragon typing, which gives it STAB to Sludge Bomb and let it massively threaten Fairy types, which most other Dragons fail to do. It also boasts access to great Water and Elec moves, especially Scald, Hydro Pump and Thunder, letting it function as a wonderful Rainy Day sweeper. Finally, Focus Blast and Icy Wind help it clear out bulkier Steel, Dark, and Rock
